Witness accounts of explosion-like sounds at WTC 7
- what the source states
- A broadcast clip caption: "NY1 reporter Gigi Stone Woods on September 11, 2001: 'All of a sudden, a loud, incredibly loud explosion.'" The same page reports her later confirmation by email on January 4, 2021: "All I remember is that we were reporting near building 7 [sic] heard a loud explosion and people yelling to run and we all did." A police officer's account: "And the whole time you're hearing THOOM, THOOM, THOOM, THOOM, THOOM. So I think I know an explosion when I hear it, you know?"
- what we infer
- Establishes that loud explosion-like sounds were reported by people present. It establishes nothing about their cause: what a layperson identifies as an explosion is not a measurement, and collapsing structure, failing transformers, and falling debris all produce comparable reports.
- limitations
- Compiled and published by an advocacy organization; the accounts are collected in support of a conclusion.
- The organization's characterization of what the investigating agency claimed about witness reports is its own and is not adopted here — see SEP-E012 for the agency's actual statement.
